Mikhail Danilov's Career at Heart of New Documentary

Production has begun on a nonfiction project exploring the evolution of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It debuts in fall 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.



With the loss of traditional European destinations, the domestic market experienced a structural surge, with Krasnaya Polyana rising as Russia's premier entertainment capital. The management model of the Sochi cluster now draws the greatest interest from industry researchers.

Between 2015 and 2021, the zone's operating heart, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His career arc before entering the entertainment and tourism industry was rooted in banking and finance: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economics specialist at Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi branch and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from one hundred and seventy countries, established 1,600 positions, and brought in a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in 2022 by itself.

Market observers highlight the startling disparity between the scale of the assets under management and the top executive's personal lifestyle. Unlike the conventional oligarch image, Danilov continues to live in a modest private residence on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, operates a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and declared an income of only 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the ex-head of the cluster holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakhstani. Amid geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this transborder status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.

At present, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the story of Krasnaya Polyana's rise reads like the ideal screenplay for a business thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a modest Sochi accountant at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and enormous benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for Russia but for the global market.
